In Celebration of National Payroll Week

National Payroll WeekDid you know that National Payroll Week was September 2-6, 2019?

National Payroll Week is little known—but without staff dedicated to payroll functions, we would not be able to count on reliable availability of our income.

There are many things that payroll staff at UW–Madison do besides making sure your earnings end up in your bank account each pay cycle.

Payroll staff ensure that your time and absences are approved, manage leave programs—from vacation and sick time to personal holiday and ALRA, enter funding, and serve as the employee’s primary contact for payroll and benefits questions.

The HR Communities of Practice Team celebrated the 10 payroll staff within the Office of Human Resources (OHR) and Administrative Services Unit (ASU) by surprising them with treasure bags filled with pirate-booty related snacks.

Partying with Payroll gameThe HRS Coordinators also celebrated National Payroll Week by playing a competitive game called “Partying with Payroll” at their late August meeting.

Teams formed, and the competition was fierce!  With questions such as “The total gross paid on the 8M and 8B was closest to…” and “The tax code is approximately how many words long…,” the leaderboard shifted tenuously from team to team.  Check out the creative team names and the winner of the competition.

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to thank your payroll people!
