Message from the Director, HR CoP

Lynn Freeman
Greetings HR Community!

I am a transplant to Wisconsin, and spring still catches me off guard with its mix of snow, cold rain, wind, and…sunburn. (Often all in one week!) While I get antsy with the anticipation of biking, swimming, boating, and enjoying sunsets on the Terrace, I’ve been pausing this week to appreciate the arrival of spring leaves, and the celebrations of our departing graduates.

The CoP Team has been hard at work this spring. Sarah and Leanne are collaborating on the launch on the seventh HR Cohort (Learning Stage), which begins May 20, and more fully developing the program’s Practicing Stage, to include professional development planning and coaching for the 80 people across our campus HR community who have completed the cohort.  Leanne and Sheryl are collaborating on the expansion of unit technical training, with particular attention to training in a shared services setting. Meanwhile, our HR communities of practice (payroll & benefits, recruitment, onboarding and workforce relations) are in full swing, with record participation in the last few months.

Additionally, the HR CoP Team is collaborating with our OHR colleagues to develop learning for you related to investigations, recruiting for diversity, and the development of a learning pathway for technical knowledge. The opportunities are endless!

How would you like to engage in learning that supports your work in HR? Check out the calendar for upcoming events, especially communities of practice meetings related to your role, and mark your calendar for the third annual HR@UW Conference on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.   If you have questions about what the CoP does, or how to get started using CoP resources to support your work, email hr_communities_of_practice@ohr.wisc.edu.

Take care, and THANK YOU for all you do!

Lynn
