Budgeting for the UW: People, Places, Practices

As members of the Finance community, we share in a common mission to ensure that our financial resources are effectively and efficiently used to advance the Wisconsin Idea through groundbreaking research, transformational teaching, and impactful community outreach.

A budget is defined as a plan, using numbers.  To open this year’s Finance@UW conference we wanted to take a deep dive into our $3.9 billion operating “plan.”  Where does all this revenue come from?  What guides our decision-making in determining how much to allocate to each of our campus units?  How have recent investments improved the excellence of this institution?  What budgeting challenges do we anticipate in the coming years?   We look forward to a robust discussion of this foundational aspect of university finances.
