Free English classes for Visiting Scholars

Free English classes for Visiting Scholars are available from the 5th week of the semester through the 14th week of the semester (approximately Feb 17–May 1). The classes are centered around helping you improve your conversational English skills and will focus mostly on speaking and listening skills. The classes will also provide you with information and insights about culture in the U.S., Wisconsin, and Madison.

Classes meet on campus in Van Hise or Sterling Hall and are taught by supervised student teachers in the TESOL Certificate Program through the ESL Program in the UW–Madison English Department.

Class Times

  • Mondays and Wednesdays, 8–9 am
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8–9 am
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30–4:30 pm

The classes will be similar in level, so please choose your class based on days and time.

Registration

To register for the class, email your choice of class times to jmnosek@wisc.edu. Within about a week, you will receive a confirmation and details about which room the class will meet in.
