EQ Skills and Strategies: Noticing and Naming Emotion

Course Description

Emotional intelligence (EQ) is more than a relational skill – it’s a strategic advantage in today’s fast-paced, collaborative work environments. The ability to recognize, understand, and manage emotions, both our own and those of others, is essential for building trust, enhancing communication, and fostering resilient, high-performing teams.

This workshop focuses on one foundational element of emotional intelligence: Self-Perception, specifically through the practice of noticing and naming emotions. Each session in the EQ@Work Skills and Strategies series introduces a practical tool and strategy to help you strengthen your emotional intelligence in the workplace.

Course Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the anatomy of an emotion and how emotions and thoughts influence behavior and decision-making.
  • Recognize how emotional patterns shape workplace relationships, communication styles, and professional outcomes.
  • Apply the Pause, Scan, PAN strategy to identify and manage emotions in real time, guiding more intentional thinking and action.
