Course Description
Understanding and empathizing with others’ perspectives-especially those with different experiences-are key to building healthy, trusting, and innovative work environments and relationships. The Perspectives professional development series highlights the value of our diverse perspectives and emphasizes our shared responsibility to support each member in reaching their full potential.
Each session in the series focuses on understanding different lived and work experiences within our community. Developed with campus partners and experts, these sessions combine information, reflection, resources, and practices to strengthen awareness, curiosity, and appreciation for our campus’s diversity.

Disability and Ableism Awareness
This course is offered in both in-person and virtual formats. Participants will join colleagues from across campus to explore disability and ableism, engage in meaningful discussion, and identify practical strategies for fostering a more inclusive and accessible workplace.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define what disability and ableism is.
- Increase awareness of diverse disability experiences, including apparent and non-apparent.
- Examine individual and organizational opportunities to foster inclusion and create inclusive practices.
- Receive practical actions, tools and resources to co-create an inclusive workplace environment.

LGBTQ+
This self-paced virtual training will help you build your awareness and skills to help create a more LGBTQ+ inclusive culture and climate and to improve the belonging and well-being of all employees, students, and campus community members.
The course has three sections. You get to choose where to start based on your existing knowledge:
- Module 1: Introduction to the Perspectives Series – Information about the series if you have never participated in the online version of a Perspectives course.
- Module 2: LGBTQ+ 101 – Information and activities for if you are newer to learning about LGBTQ+ communities or want more practice.
- Module 3: LGBTQ+ Perspectives – This is the main course content. You will learn about climate, application of your existing skills to support LGBTQ+ campus community members, and how you can contribute to a more inclusive workplace.
