“Mentor and Mentee Relationships: why they’re important and how to make them work”
Mentoring is a collaborative learning relationship that proceeds through purposeful stages over time and has the primary goal of helping the mentees gain the skills and knowledge they need to move on in their chosen careers. Research has shown that effective mentoring is linked to enhanced mentee productivity, self-efficacy, and career satisfaction. However, many mentors receive little to no training on how to effectively mentor. During this session, we’ll explore what mentoring is and cover communication and expectation setting in mentoring relationships.
During this session attendees will:
- Reflect on and share their images of what mentoring is
- Practice some skills for effective communication
- Consider ways they can improve their own mentoring relationships
