When an employee moves to a new position, ends employment, or starts a leave of absence, it is important to review if the tasks that are currently pending action by that employee should remain with them, if they should be sent to someone else, or if they should be canceled outright. This guide provides information about the Manage Business Process for Worker task, and guidance on what actions you can take through the task.
Overview of Manage Business Process for Worker
“Manage Business Processes for Worker” is a task that is a part of several Workday Business Processes used for reassigning or canceling tasks of impacted employees.

Processing in Workday
The Manage Business Processes for Worker task is delivered after the main process (Promote, Demote, Transfer, Request Leave of Absence, Terminate) is completed so that business processes are not awaiting action by a terminated employee. The task is assigned based on the business process from which it originates.
| Business Process | Who Receives the Manage Business Process Task |
|---|---|
| Change Job | HR Partner |
| Request Leave of Absence | Manager |
| End Contingent Worker Contract | HR Process Coordinator |
| Terminate Employee | HR Process Coordinator, SA Process Coordinator, SH Process Coordinator |
When completing the task, it is important to review all three tabs for action to take before clicking "Submit" on the task. See more information on these three tabs below.

My Tasks Assigned to Worker
Overview
The “My Tasks Assigned to Worker” tab shows all the tasks in the employee's “My Task” list that are able to be reassigned or canceled.
- Each task will need to be reviewed individually in order to determine what is the best course of action.
Security roles play a large role in how many tasks an employee will receive. Some employees will have more tasks than others.
Taking Action
The chart in the Workday task (pictured below) shows what tasks are awaiting action, how many people the action is waiting on, and other information that can be used to determine how the task should be handled.
- Depending on the task, you will have the option to "Cancel" or "Reassign" the task.
- By leaving the "Action" box blank, nothing will happen to the task; additional action can be taken later, outside of the Manage Business Processes for Worker task.Â

Take each task one at a time.Â

You can open the task in a new tab by right clicking the name of the business process and clicking "See in New Tab".Â

When a task is being reassigned, Workday restricts selection to individuals who have the required security role to perform the task. Once clicking on the box in "Action," Workday will show you all the security roles that the task is allowed to be reassigned to, and then those with the correct security inheritance to work on the employee.

Some tasks display the option to reassign, but no eligible security roles are available to select. In these cases, the Reassign To field will show "No Items."
- If you intend for this task to be reassigned to someone, you can leave the action as "Reassign" with the "Reassign To" blank and add a comment on who the task should be reassigned to.
- The next level approver may be able to add that person as the reassignee.

Consider the following when reviewing the tasks: How many people are assigned the task?Â

- Tasks assigned to multiple people likely do not need to be canceled or reassigned to anyone
- Tasks assigned to only one person will likely need to be either reassigned or canceled
- Is the task about the employee or a different employee?
- Tasks about a different employee should likely be reassigned or left alone
- If the task is about the employee, do they still need the task?
- If the employee is transferring to a new unit but the task is about an outstanding action in their current role, the task should likely not be canceled
- If the task is about the employee, can they still use the task once the transfer is complete?
- If the employee is transferring and the task is about their general employment (such as a home contact change or a photo change) the task can likely be left alone
Note: Tasks you mark to cancel or reassign will be sent to the appropriate Shared Services security role to review before the process is complete. You will be notified by a Workday Notification when the task is canceled or reassigned, if the request to cancel was denied, or if the task was reassigned to a different person.
Business Processes about the Worker
Overview
The Business Processes about the Worker tab shows all the tasks in anyone's My Task list about the employee that can be canceled. Each task will need to be reviewed individually to determine what is the best course of action. These tasks typically revolve around adding a photo, address or other personal information changes, performance management, and/or documents awaiting action. Some of these tasks may be repeated from the My Tasks Assigned to Worker tab.
Taking Action
The only option for these tasks is to cancel. Review each task to see if it should be canceled or if it should be left in Workday.
- If you are choosing to cancel, please add a comment on why you are canceling the task such as "Employee is terminating effective 01/01/2026."
- If the task is on both the My Tasks Assigned to Worker tab and Business Processes about the Worker tab, you will want to make sure that the selection you have made matches on both screens.
- Leaving a box unchecked leaves the task active, but it can be canceled in the future by OST.
Tasks you mark to cancel will be sent to the appropriate Shared Services security role to review before the cancellation is complete. You will be notified by a Workday Notification when the task is canceled or if the request to cancel was denied.
Delegations to the Worker
Overview
The Delegations to the Worker tab shows all active delegations and the tasks in the employee's My Task list delegated to them. This screen serves only as a notice; no action can be taken from this screen. Termination does not always end delegations; if the delegation appears on the screen, it will need manual intervention.

Taking Action
If a delegation appears on this screen and it should be ended, notify the Delegation Manager that they will need to manage delegations for the employee to end the delegation.Â
