Performance Review Instructions for Instructional Academic Staff

This document will describe the review process in Workday for Instructional Academic Staff (other than Clinical Health Sciences, Faculty and Clinician Track Faculty) and includes information on both employee and supervisor/manager tasks.

Process Overview

The diagram shows that the overall process begins with the employee self-evaluation and ends with the employee acknowledgement. Each step must be completed before the next step will launch. The full process and all steps must be submitted for the evaluation to be complete.

Step 1: Employee Self Evaluation

This step is completed by the Employee.

  1. Log into Workday

  2. Locate the task titled Self Evaluation: Instructional Academic Staff Annual Evaluation - 2026: {Employee Name}. You can find the task in two places:

    1. Listed in Awaiting Your Action on your Workday homepage

    2. Listed in your Workday inbox

  3. Click Get Started. 
  4. In the text box, respond to the prompt related to Teaching Activities. Then use the drop down to rate your performance. Select a rating to see the rating description. When complete, click Next.

  5. Repeat the process described in step 4 to evaluate your Professional Activities.
  6. Repeat the process described in step 4 to evaluate your Service Activities.
  7. Upload Supporting Documents (optional)

    1. Documents can be attached to the evaluation by dragging and dropping files in the field provided, or clicking Select Files and selecting the files you wish to attach to the self evaluation.

    2. Click Next

  8. If you have a non-primary job, any feedback provided by your non-primary supervisor will show next. Click Next to continue to the final step.
  9. A summary of the information you provided in the Self Evaluation will show. Review the information is correct and click Submit.  Clicking Submit will initiate the next step in the process which is the manager evaluation. 

Step 2: Manager Evaluation

This step is completed by the Manager. 

  1. Log into Workday
  2. Locate the task titled Manager Evaluation: Instructional Academic Staff Annual Evaluation - 2026: {Employee Name}. You can access the task in two places:

  3. Click Get Started. 

  4. In the text box, respond to the prompt related to Teaching Activities (optional). Then use the drop down to rate the employee’s performance. Select a rating to see the rating description. To the right, you can view the employee’s comments and rating from their self-evaluation. When complete, click Next.

  5. Repeat the process described in step 4 to evaluate the employee’s Professional Activities.
  6. Repeat the process described in step 4 to evaluate the employee’s Service Activities.
  7. Upload Supporting Documents (optional)

    1. Documents can be attached to the evaluation by dragging and dropping files in the field provided, or clicking Select Files and selecting the files you wish to attach to the self evaluation.

    2. Click Next

  8. Select an overall rating for the employee’s performance (required). Provide comments to support the rating selected in the comment text box (optional). Select Next once complete.

  9. If the employee has a non-primary job and the non-primary manager provided feedback, it will show on the next screen. Click Next to continue.
  10. Important: The next step to complete the Manager Evaluation is to click Submit. Once submitted, no changes can be made to the evaluation. 

It is recommended that you meet with the employee for the review conversation before clicking Submit in case the conversation results in edits to the evaluation. When ready, review the information is correct and click Submit. Clicking Submit will initiate the next step in the process which is the Employee Acknowledgement. 

Step 3: Manager and Employee Performance Discussion

Manager and employee meet to discuss the contents of the evaluation. This step occurs outside of Workday.

Step 4: Employee Acknowledgement

This step is completed by the Employee. 

  1. Log into Workday

  2. Locate the task titled Performance Evaluation Employee Acknowledgement: {Employee Name}. You can find the task in two places:

    1. Listed in Awaiting Your Action on your Workday homepage

    2. Listed in your Workday inbox

  3. Click Get Started.
  4. Review the information provided in the evaluation. Then click Next.

  5. Click in the Status and click the button to acknowledge receipt of information in the completed evaluation. Add any additional comments (optional). Click Submit to complete the evaluation process.  A notice will be sent to the manager that the process is complete.
