This document serves as a crosswalk for compensation-related Workday business processes (BPs). It outlines the compensation reason, associated BPs, types of payments, and provides definitions for when each reason should be used.

FLSA Adjustment | Change Job | Base | Change between Exempt and Non-Exempt FLSA statuses due to change in compensation (threshold). For example, an increase to their salary for whatever reason (except FTE change) raises them above the threshold and their Exempt title that was Non-Exempt because of threshold can now be Exempt because they are over the FLSA salary threshold. |

Market Factor-Retention | Request Compensation Change-Base Building | Base | This adjustment is a salary increase to retain one or more employees who have received outside offers (outside UW-Madison or the Universities of Wisconsin), or there is evidence of a serious retention problem. This can include a recent pattern of employees in the same discipline/unit leaving to take positions outside UW-Madison or the Universities of Wisconsin with comparable responsibilities at higher salaries. Units should use this type of adjustment only to retain employees with exemplary performance and highly-valued expertise. |
