Overview

Create an Excellence in Mentoring Requisition

Create a new job requisition as usual and follow these additional steps:

  1. In the Job Description field, along with other information about the position, you must include:
"Candidates for this position may be eligible for participation in the Excellence in Mentoring Initiative. The Excellence in Mentoring Initiative aims to recruit outstanding faculty who, in addition to their demonstrated excellence or strong potential in research and teaching, have demonstrated the ability and commitment to mentor underprepared or under-resourced students to help them achieve academic success and the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. In this case, the faculty member will join a cohort of Excellence in Mentoring Initiative faculty across campus and become part of a growing community of scholars dedicated to inclusive mentorship and student success.”
  2. Under the Required Qualifications heading in the Job Qualifications And Additional Details For Job Posting field, along with other required qualifications for the position, you must include:
"Demonstrated evidence in mentoring at-risk, first generation, and/or underrepresented undergraduate or graduate students to help them achieve academic success"

Note: This language/qualification is required for positions to be funded through this initiative. Failure to include this language/qualification (or to hire a candidate with sufficient qualifications) will disqualify the position from centralized funding. The focus of the requisition (and subsequent recruitment) should be on excellence in mentorship, not the identity characteristics of the faculty candidate.
