Form I-9 and Non-Service Appointments

The positions below (Non-Service Appointments) do not require a completed Form I-9 when an employee is hired into the position. This also means when an employee is rehired into a NSA, a rehire is not required on the Form I-9.

Non-Service Related Appointments

  • Postdoctoral Fellow PD003 (ET2)
  • Postdoctoral Trainee PD004 (ET2)
  • Adv. Opp. Fellow SA001 (SA1)
  • Graduate Intern/Trainee PD001 (ET4)
  • Fellow SA002 (SA1)*
  • Scholar SA010 (SA1)*
  • Trainee SA013 (SA1)

New Employee

Workday will not initiate the Form I-9 task when a new employee is hired into a NSA - Workday recognizes the position is a NSA and does not require a Form I-9.

Rehire

Workday will initiate a Supplement B rehire in all situations where an employee is rehired after a break in service, so long as the Form I-9 is valid to use for the rehired position.

If an employee is being rehired into a NSA, you should skip the task prompting you to complete a Supplement B rehire because the rehire is not required.

If the employee is not being rehired into a NSA, you must complete the Supplement B rehire task.
