Benefits Preferences Survey Coming Fall 2018

Article appeared in M.A.N.A.G.E. Newsletter – August 2018. OHR UW Madison Learning and Professional Development

The Title and Total Compensation Study, launched in February 2017, is a two-year review of current job titles and total compensation at UW-Madison. The Study will result in relevant and market-informed titles and pay ranges, and better tools to help managers make informed decisions about pay and promotional opportunities for their employees. See Guiding Principles.

During the first half of the study, project teams engaged thousands of employees across campus in developing a new Job Framework. The framework consists of Job Groups, Job Sub-groups, Career Paths, and Levels. Currently, teams from across campus are writing standard job descriptions for existing titles, and aligning them to the Job Framework.

The study goes beyond creating a consistent titling structure. In the fall of 2018, all employees will be invited to participate in a Benefits Preferences Survey. Managers and supervisors will play an important role by encouraging employees to take the survey. The survey will focus on work-life and leave benefits by asking employees about the benefits they value the most. The results of the survey will help guide the development of a future long term benefits strategy.

Shortly before the Benefits Preferences Survey is administered, supervisors and employees will receive detailed information about the survey and instructions for completing it.
