How to Use QR Codes in Your Recruitments

What is a QR Code?
A QR or Quick Response Code is a type of barcode that can be read by a digital device such as a smartphone.

When should you use a QR Code?
The QR Codes generated in the Talent Recruitment and Engagement Management System (TREMS) are unique to your job posting. When they are scanned by a digital device, users are redirected seamlessly to your job posting. This allows people the opportunity to apply for the job directly from their devices.

The QR Code option is useful when you wish to employ tactics to strengthen your applicant pool or wish to share the job opportunity broadly. Positions that are posted or extended often are examples of jobs you may want to use a QR Code for (e.g., – custodians, food and dining service, and animal care).

A QR Code can also be tied to a specific application source. For example, if you are attending a job fair (virtual or in-person) and plan to share a QR Code, your Talent Acquisition Specialist can associate the code with the ‘Job Fair’ source. When people scan the code and apply for the job, their source in TREMS will automatically populate as ‘Job Fair.’ This is especially helpful if you wish to track your return on investment on the event.

How can it be used in recruitment?
A QR Code can be used electronically, pasted in an email message, or included in an email signature. It can also be used in printed materials.

Examples of times you may want to print the QR Code include handing out information at job fairs or networking events, or posting information in a building or bulletin board. They provide an easy and quick way for those within your divisions to share job opportunities. At a recent job fair, the Office of Human Resources (OHR) utilized QR Codes to highlight ten positions on one flyer. Using the QR code also helps to not overwhelm potential applicants with text.

The employment website,, can have over 600 jobs posted at any time. A QR Code will ensure potential applicants are directed right to your job!

It is important to note that QR Codes can only be used when a position is actively posted to the employment website.
