Apply for Jobs at UW-Madison as an Internal Employee

Current Universities of Wisconsin employees will apply for all UW jobs (regardless of campus) using their employee Workday account.

Current employees should not create an external candidate account to apply for a UW job.

Step 1

Go to the Workday home page.

  • Click the Menu.

Click on 'Jobs Hub' from the 'Organization' tab.

Step 2

You can search for jobs in 2 different ways.

  • The newest job postings show up first. You can use the left and right arrows to scroll through them.

  • Click the magnifying glass icon to view all open positions.

Narrow the list of jobs (make the list smaller) with filters. Click the checkbox to the left of the filters you want:

  • Location
  • Time type (full-time or part-time)
  • Job group
  • Employment type

When you click a checkbox, the list updates automatically. Click the checkbox again to remove the filter.

After you narrow your search, click the position titles to learn more about each job.

Step 3

If you want to apply for a job:

  •  Click 'Apply' to start.

If your email or phone number is marked as 'public' in your Worker Profile, it will show up under 'Contact Information' at the top of the page. You can update your contact details by editing your Worker Profile.

Step 5

Upload your application materials (usually resume and cover letter). Follow all instructions in the ‘How to Apply’ section of the job posting. 

It is important to refer to this section to ensure you are uploading the requested documents. Failure to do so may result in not being considered for the job.

Step 6

If applicable, answer the required questionnaires. 

    • Choose if you want to request confidentiality.
    • If you do not request confidentiality, UW might have to share your identity and application materials during an open records request.

The identity of finalists and successful candidates will be revealed upon request. See Wis. Stat. sec. 19.36(7). Step 7

Review your application. When you are ready, click ‘Submit.’

View Your Applications

Applicant Account Overview

After you submit your application, you will automatically go to your applicant account.

In your applicant account you can see:

  • your active and inactive job applications.
  • your application status.
  • jobs that are similar to the jobs you applied for.

Withdraw Your Application

Step 1: Action Menu

If you are not interested in a job you applied for, withdraw (cancel) your application.

  • Go to ‘My Applications.’
  • Click the menu (3 dots) under the ‘Actions.’

Step 2: Withdraw

Click ‘Withdraw Application.’

Read the pop-up message and click:

  • ‘Withdraw’ to cancel your application.
  • ‘Cancel’ to keep your application active and continue applying for the job.

If you withdraw, your application will move to the 'Inactive' tab in 'My Applications.'
