Flexible Work Arrangements (formerly Remote Work Agreements) are processed in Workday. As a result, there have been some changes to the request and approval processes, and these may continue to evolve over time. It is important to note the followingWhat stays the same
What has changed
- Remote Work Agreements are now called Flexible Work Arrangements. UW-Madison’s Remote Work policy (UW-5087 Remote Work) has been updated to reflect this change.
- Employees will submit their Flexible Work Arrangement requests through Workday. Â
- Supervisors, HR professionals, and other necessary approvers will approve employee requests through Workday. Â
- Remote work webpages have been updated with job aids and other resources to assist with submitting, reviewing, and processing requests.
What stays the same
- Aside from the terminology mentioned above, UW–Madison’s Remote Work policy has not broadly changed due to Workday implementation.
- All flexible work arrangements are to be resubmitted on a fiscal year (FY) basis, which starts on July 1 and ends June 30. This policy change was effective as of 2024.Â
- The use of the term "Flexible Work Arrangement" is not to be confused with "workplace flexibility". See the definitions for Flexible Work Arrangement and workplace flexibility. Â
- Employees seeking Flexible Work Arrangements are expected to continue following all conditions of the policy for in-state, out-of-state, and international remote work. Â
Current state
- Employees currently have view-only access to Remote Work Agreements in Human Resource System (HRS) for Fiscal Year 2025 and prior. Â
- Annual Flexible Work Arrangement requests in Workday must occur on or after July 7. Â
