Instructional Category
This category includes modified professorial functions and have four prefixes or levels: Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor. Museums: Museum and Departmental Collection Services
Manage, develop, and facilitate the use of museums, galleries, teaching, and research collections to enhance academic teaching and research, as well as general public education and interest. Manage physical and digital collections. Digitize, research, conserve, preserve, interpret, teach, and provide outreach related to collections. Manage, coordinate, design, and develop exhibitions.
Other
This title group is designed to meet special payroll, budget and university affiliation needs. For example: Teaching Supervisor is used to payroll school district staff who serve as mentors for UW System students. Academic Staff and Classified Back-Up titles are used to describe zero-dollar back-up appointments in the budget. Honorary Associate/Fellow designates the holder of a fellowship administered outside the university or a courtesy appointment for a visiting scholar.
Outreach and Community Engagement
Design, promote, administer, and support outreach activities, community engagement, and culturally relevant research based educational programming for individuals, families, organizations, and communities. Develop, deliver, administer, and evaluate programs in support of the Wisconsin Idea. Develop partnerships and build strong relationships utilizing interdisciplinary skills. May include implementing education, research, service learning, and other initiatives to build capacity in community settings.

Persons holding a title in the Post Degree Training Appointments group are normally acquiring additional training or experience in their field of specialization. Two examples of Post Degree Training Appointments are Postdoctoral Fellow and Postgraduate Trainee.
Public Broadcasting
Develop and manage content; plan, coordinate and administer programs, processes, and facilitates radio and television, including programming, scheduling, training, editing and related activities. Produce, report, and host news and talk programs.

Broadcast & Engineering Operations
Manage, operate, design, and maintain broadcasting, networking, and digital systems technology and/or studio and remote production operations. Perform technical engineering related to production and delivery of audio and video utilizing broadcast and information technology systems. Use knowledge and expertise to maintain technical quality and/or adherence to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) technical regulations. May operate equipment for remote television, radio, or online productions, transmitter maintenance, and/or general engineering. May manage or assist with interstitial airtime for broadcast and/or streaming services.
Production
Deliver, produce, and direct production of television and radio programs. Research, pitch, and book program ideas that reflect insightful programming style, balanced coverage, and a variety of perspectives. May produce and direct programs or unit operations. May create content for programs and on web and social media sites. Conceptualize, plan, and create physical and/or digital assets for productions and events. Schedule, collaborate, and communicate with guests, venues, and hosts; prepare materials, screen, and/or direct broadcast. May manage daily production and unit operations including scripting, preproduction, studio and location camera work, postproduction editing, and delivery of final products.
Reporting
Research, prepare, and report on content for public radio or television that is balanced, issue-oriented, analytical for daily news/information programs and segments/broadcasts. Select sources; conduct and tape interviews; write scripts, billboards and host introductory copy; and edit and dub tapes. May complete field and on-camera reports.
Programming
Develop, evaluate, and/or implement programming strategy in support of unit strategic priorities. Evaluate, acquire, and schedule programs, coordinating with other departments.
Membership
Develop, plan, and/or implement strategies, activities, and programs to generate individual giving to meet the revenue goals of the membership unit. May perform a wide range of administrative, operational, and special project functions related to the unit’s fundraising and business support activities.
Education
Develop, implement, and/or evaluate public media education production and engagement strategy or activities. Engage in development, creation, budgeting, utilization, and evaluation of multimedia content, educator professional development activities, and/or events in support of unit strategic goals.
Administration
Provide leadership, vision, and has significant responsibility for all key areas of Wisconsin Public Media’s service to the state. Direct operations and strategic investments, and supervise personnel engaged in various operational units throughout the organization. Provide oversight and continuity for public radio and/or public television and their support organizations. May include responsibility for regulatory compliance, intellectual compliance, intellectual property, and contract management. Lead administrative activities.

Clinical Trials
Establish, perform, support, monitor, or manage clinical trials of human subjects, usually involving pharmaceutical or device intervention within the health sciences. Ensure regulatory compliance and perform other functions necessary to conduct human subject research.
Client-based Research Services
Use specialized expertise to manage or provide product development and solutions for clients in their research and experimental programs and projects. Design, develop, analyze, optimize, collect, troubleshoot, repair, interpret, engineer, manufacture, fabricate, perform quality control and analysis, test, provide guidance, give expert consultation, or train based on the specific needs of client programs or projects.
Data Analysis Services
Performs complex data analysis. Interprets results from multiple sources using a variety of techniques including data aggregation and complex data mining. Designs, develops and implements research tools and business tools for internal and external use. Prepares and manages large datasets, implements data models and develops databases.

Manage or conduct academic or community research. Identify, design, perform, and manage research experiments, investigations, scholarly studies, and evaluations. Develop data and information collection instruments, protocols, and procedures. Collect, analyze, and manage data and information. Prepare, publish, and present research results. Write or contribute to grant applications and reports. Identify and engage in research collaborations. Monitor and adhere to research compliance.

Sponsored Programs, Grants, and Contract Administration (Multi-functional)
Manage or perform activities related to multiple areas of sponsored projects administration including, but not limited to pre-award and post-award activities. Duties are multi-dimensional in nature, but not always to the exclusion of specialty skills, and typically include various cross-functional duties and responsibility. Manage or perform analytical and financial activities associated with cost studies, forecasting, planning, and managing research portfolios. Plan, direct, and implement a variety of research administrative functions, processes, and systems. Sponsored Programs, Grants and Contract Administration (Post-award)
Manage or provide post-award administration of sponsored programs. Establish awards in the institution’s system, monitor expenditures, ensure compliance with federal, university, and sponsor guidelines, oversee sub-award activities, administer cost-share and effort reporting requirements, prepare invoices, manage receivables, coordinate audits, and submit financial reports.
Sponsored Programs, Grants, and Contract Administration (Pre-award)
Manage or provide pre-award administration of sponsored programs. Identify grant opportunities, facilitate proposal development, contribute to non-technical components of proposals, process proposals, develop budgets, negotiate grants and contracts, ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and terms and conditions. Issue sub-awards and sub-contracts.
Student Assistant
Titles in the Student Assistant title group are used for graduate students who: hold a fellowship, scholarship or traineeship (e.g. Fellow) hold an appointment which is intended primarily to further the education and training of the student (e.g. Research Assistant); are employed to assist with research, training or other academic programs or projects (e.g. Teaching Assistant, Program/Project Assistant); and/or have been assigned teaching responsibilities in an instructional department under the supervision of a faculty member. In addition, Student Assistant titles (Undergraduate Assistant) are available to undergraduate students when: no qualified graduate student is available to perform a function that would normally be assigned to graduate Student Assistants; or when the terms of a supporting grant or contract preclude the use of other normally appropriate titles.
Some examples of Student Assistant titles are Fellow, Teaching Assistant, Program Assistant, Project Assistant, Research Assistant, and undergraduate Assistant. The assignment of Student Assistant titles is delegated to the chancellor with the expectation that assignments will be in compliance with system wide definitions and/or collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
Student Hourly
Student hourly employees are comprised of students who provide part-time and/or temporary administrative, clerical, laborer, technical or other general support to faculty and staff.

Curriculum Development, Management and Assessment of For-credit Courses
Manage, create, and develop teaching content of for-credit courses, including assessment instruments that measure students’ acquisition of critical skills and knowledge. Supervise and manage teaching and delivery of content, and those who perform these roles. Assess efficacy of curricular content and the performance of those who teach and deliver content.
Early Childhood Education
Manage or provide developmentally appropriate early care and education; provide support to families on child education; provide model training experiences for teachers; may develop research environment and oversee, perform and report on research conducted within the program.
Instructional Facilitation and Management of For-credit Courses
Manage or provide support services to for-credit instruction. Provide materials to faculty and instructional academic staff in an instructional setting. Assist faculty and instructional academic staff members in student assessment and grading. Instruct students in the proper design and use of equipment in an instructional setting.
