TTC Job Title Appeals Process Update

Colleagues,

As we announced last month, the Title and Total Compensation (TTC) Project extended the Job Title Appeals Process to February 4, 2022.

In addition, the central Office of Human Resources (OHR) has been working with employees, local human resources (HR) representatives, and campus leadership to address additional feedback beyond the Job Title Appeals process. This includes refining, analyzing, and conducting additional reviews of the new structure. (For more information about impacted areas, visit hr.wisc.edu/title-and-total-compensation-study/under-review.) While these additional reviews affect only some employees, the information below will help employees understand how these changes may impact them.

New Process for Titles and SJDs in Review

Some employees may file an appeal to request a different standard job description (SJD) that is currently under review. If OHR changes a title or SJD during the review process, the following will occur:

·       Any formally filed appeal submitted by February 4 may be held with no decision until any changes to the relevant title or SJD have been finalized. If this option is chosen, local HR representatives will notify affected employees that their formal appeal is on hold for this reason. The appeals timeline will be adjusted for these employees.

·       If OHR creates a new SJD that did not exist by February 4, employees will be provided an opportunity to appeal should the new SJD match the employee’s job duties. In these cases, the effective date of any approved change will be dependent upon the individual employee’s circumstances.

Formal Job Title Appeals

Employees may submit a Job Title Appeal if they believe their new official job title and standard job description (SJD) do not match their current duties and another SJD better matches their duties. For existing titles and SJDs, the deadline to appeal is Friday, Feb. 4, 2022. For more information about the process, visit hr.wisc.edu/title-and-total-compensation-study/appeals.

New Titles

If employees feel that their title does not align with their current responsibilities and a new title does not exist, they should contact their local HR representative. HR professionals have a process to work with the project team to review TTC Project issues. More information will be communicated about the process for new titles and how it will impact employees.

For more information, visit go.wisc.edu/ttcproject. If you have questions regarding the TTC Project or Job Title Appeals process, please contact your local HR representative. You can find your local human resources department by visiting hr.wisc.edu/contact.

Thank you for your engagement with this project. We hope the new year and spring semester are off to a great start.

Best,

Patrick Q. Sheehan

Interim Chief Human Resources Officer
