The Job Rotation Program is designed to get careers off to a strong start, whether participants are interested in finance, human resources, or information technology (new in 2023). Each rotator engages in four meaningful work experiences over the course of two years, developing a well-rounded skill set and strong knowledge base.
Program participants also benefit from mentoring and support, a professional community, and a learning path customized to their needs and interests. Rotators share these experiences as part of a cohort group.
This highly competitive program seeks out individuals with strong critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and relationship building skills.
Job Rotation Program in Finance
Work Experiences
- Develop finance, analytics, and leadership skills while gaining an extensive understanding of the UW–Madison and the higher education industry.
- Engage in projects that span across various functional teams within finance and accounting, providing program members a unique perspective and a deep understanding of how UW–Madison units and the campus operate.

Job Rotation Program in HR
Work Experiences
- Work on meaningful assignments supporting cross-campus and multi-functional areas, including payroll, benefits, recruitment, learning and professional development, and business partnerships.
- Support and work alongside HR representatives and business partners to provide an array of information, guidance, and assistance to internal employees and managers.
- Projects may be in the areas of policy interpretation and enhancements, training/facilitation or curriculum development, program management and/or customer service.

Job Rotation Program in Information Technology
The Job Rotation Program will launch a new career track in Information Technology (IT) in the summer of 2023. Challenging career opportunities for IT professionals are found across the UW–Madison campus, and the program will support the university’s need to recruit and develop top talent to fill these roles.
Work Experiences
- Provide multidisciplinary IT services to support IT functionality according to the work unit or program’s business goals and objectives.
- Support and engage in IT projects and provide assistance, research, and support for various environments and business needs.
Possible Rotation Assignments
Rotation employees in information technology will complete their four, six-month rotation assignments in a variety of campus units and information technology functions. Here is an example of the assigned units a rotation might include.
