UW–Madison Employee Wellness Internship

Internship/Practicum Program
UW–Madison employee wellness supports the holistic pursuit toward health and vitality for 23,000 employees. Work with campus partners to develop innovative strategies, promotions, and programs to achieve our mission of creating healthy, inclusive, and engaging workplaces. Each experience is tailored to best fit each student’s personal interest in health and wellness promotion, specifically in a worksite setting. This includes working to impact the environment and culture, helping people reduce behavioral risk factors, and designing evaluation methods to keep a healthy population healthy throughout their lifecycle as an employee of UW–Madison. One major project will be the cornerstone of the internship/practicum experience. Self-motivated and creative students should apply.

Guidelines/Requirements for Applicants

Candidates for the UW–Madison Employee Wellness internship should be actively enrolled in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in exercise science, public health, health and wellness promotion, or similar. Students should have junior-level coursework and be receiving academic credit.

Interns are expected for a one semester commitment.

  • Practicum time commitment: course credit
  • Internship: flexible based upon student/program needs

Time requirements will be reviewed with supervising faculty and adjusted if necessary.

Office hours from 7:45 am–4:30 pm are required but flexible.

Business casual attire is expected during office hours.

Positive health habits are expected during practicum/internship commitment.

This is an unpaid practicum/internship. No stipends, meals, or dormitory housing is available.

Application Process

Internships are offered in the spring, fall, and summer. Applications received between these dates will be considered:

  • Spring internship – apply between August 1 and October 1
  • Summer internship – apply between January 1 and March 1
  • Fall internship – apply between April 1 and June 1

Application Requirements

During the online application process, you’ll be asked to attach:

  • Resume—include GPA and course highlights
  • Cover letter—describe your career objectives and list pertinent experiences you’ve had, and also include the internship track you are interested in, your current academic standing (such as junior or senior), and hours required for your internship
  • 3 letters of reference (academic and professional)
  • Transcripts from all colleges attended (photocopies acceptable)

The applicant is responsible for ensuring that all application materials are complete and received by UW–Madison Employee Wellness on or before the deadline for each internship period. The selection committee will not review incomplete applications.
