I believe I can listen, provide support, and be empathetic to those experiencing HIB in the workplace. I have been through it, and I can relate.

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

I chose to serve as an HIB liaison because I have a strong desire to help people and feel like I can make a difference.

I have been on campus for 19+ years and have been in roles that include human resources and being responsible for confidential information.
I have degrees in Exercise and Sports Science-Athletic Training, Accounting, and an MBA.

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

I chose to serve as an HIB Liaison to help members of the UW-Madison community navigate and overcome challenging situations.

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

As a polysexual transmasculine person I am, unfortunately, personally familiar with instances of HIB in my life and those around me. I wish to provide a safe, nonjudgmental listening experience for marginalized folks on campus and direct them towards campus’ different resources.

I want to contribute to making a better workplace for everybody.

I love spending time outdoors doing anything but especially hiking, poking around in the water, and looking at insects.

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

I feel very strongly that every employee should be able to come to their workplace without fear of hostile and or intimidating behavior.

Anne Murphy-Lom

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

I know how hard it is to be in a difficult situation and not know where to turn. I signed up to serve so that I can actively listen and help people find the resources they need to determine their next steps.

Background:

I have over 20 years of experience in on campus and have worked in academic departments, research centers and in divisional offices. This helps me understand the complexities of this organization.
I can meet onsite or remotely.
Outside of work, I like reading, hiking and theater. I also have cats which are known to regularly join my video chats.

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

I chose to serve as an HIB Liaison to help ensure that everyone at UW-Madison has someone they can talk to in order to better understand the university’s hostile and intimating behavior policies, and access the support they need to thrive at UW.

Background:

I have worked at UW-Madison since 2013 as Academic Staff and a Limited Appointee.
I support postdocs (junior researchers) across the university, including providing information about campus resources and developing policy.

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

As an alumni, employee, and parent of a current student, I love UW-Madison. I fully support campus efforts to address and prevent HIB, and want to help make the process as accessible as possible to those who engage with it.

Background:

15 years of UW-Madison work experience, including 12 years at the UW-Arboretum.
4 years of service on the OVCRGE Equity and Diversity Committee.

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

I chose to serve as an HIB liaison so that I could listen to campus community members who are experiencing HIB and help direct them to potential resources.

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

I want to help make UW-Madison comfortable and welcoming for all. I’ve benefited from talking through situations and having a listening ear. In this role, I’m able to do that for others.

Completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees at UW-Madison.
Past work with UW School of Medicine and Public Health and International Education/Education Abroad.

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

I chose to serve as a HIB Liaison because when I previously in HR, I worked closely with a HIB Liaison and remember how helpful and grateful I was for their assistance with a very difficult employee situation. I feel that it’s important that I give back and am eager to support other employees in the same way to ensure our Campus is as welcoming and safe as possible for all.

Background:

Before accepting my current role back in 2020, I was a HR Business Partner at SMPH.

I am strongly committed to assisting people who experience HIB and helping to build a culture on our campus to prevent HIB from occurring.

22+ years of experience as a faculty member and administrator at UW-Madison
longstanding engagement in outreach to Amish and Mennonite communities across the state, especially related to healthcare

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

I chose to serve as a HIB Liaison because I felt having an HR perspective would be helpful to staff who maybe experiencing HIB

Worked on campus for almost 17 years-first in SMPH, then at College of Engineering
Have served as a HIB liaison and HIB workshop facilitator since 2016

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

To provide a safe place for those experiencing HIB to talk about their experience and ask questions about the resources available to them on the UW campus.

Amy Wendt

Why did you choose to become a liaison?

After contributing to the implementation plan for UW HIB policy, development of HIB training and website, I am eager to apply what I know to help individuals in need benefit from campus resources.

Background:

Amy Wendt (she/her) is a professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Dept. at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She is also Associate Vice Chancellor for Research-Physical Sciences and co-Director of the Women in Science and Engineering Leadership Institute (WISELI) at UW and is committed to identifying and updating institutional policies and practices that present barriers to diversity, equity and inclusion. Dr. Wendt contributed to the implementation of UW-Madison Hostile and Intimidating Behavior policy, and to the development and delivery of HIB training. She has been promoting diversity and inclusion at the faculty level for over 20 years through her involvement in WISELI. She teaches faculty to engage in more fair and equitable searches, leads grant programs to promote visibility of diverse scholars and promote equity in research, and works at the University level to create policy that enhances faculty inclusion. Her fundamental research in low-temperature plasmas serves the goal of optimization and control of plasma-driven materials process applications, with a current focus on the development of non-invasive diagnostics of plasma properties using optical emission spectroscopy.
