Payroll tax withholding is a very individual decision based on each person’s financial and personal situation. Form W-4 is used to help employees accurately calculate their payroll tax withholding.

Update your payroll tax withholdings online
The university is not authorized to provide tax advice. Each employee must make withholding decisions on their own or with the assistance of their individual tax consultant. After you submit a tax withholding update, we encourage you to monitor your Earnings Statement to verify your tax withholdings.
Use the MyUW employee portal to update your federal and state Form W-4
Most employees can enter and update their tax withholding information using the Payroll Information module in MyUW.

Update your Form W-4 with a paper form
If you prefer to submit a paper form, you can submit a Form W-4 in person, by mail, or by fax to your department’s Payroll/HR office or the Office of Human Resources at the address below. For security purposes, UW–Madison will not accept W-4 forms via email.
