There are two primary campus tools used for HR data reporting at UW: Workday Reporting and Tableau.
Workday Reporting
Workday has thousands of standard and custom reports and dashboards. Reports are restricted by a combination of assigned security roles and areas of responsibility.

HR Report Enhancement Request Process
As HR professionals become familiar with Workday reporting, they may have ideas for enhancements or optimizations to improve the access to data needed to perform their job responsibilities. Report enhancements include things like changes that improve usability or could boost workflow/process efficiency, or the addition of a nice-to-have data element or feature.
The Office of Human Resources will be collaborating with the Workday and Enterprise Solutions team (WEST) to prioritize new reports and report enhancement requests from the UW-Madison HR community. Â
We ask that the HR Community submit requests using the Workday HR Report Enhancement Request Process. Submissions will route to the OHR HRIS team to review. The OHR HRIS team will consult with the requestor and provide next steps on the process. Â
As appropriate, OHR will consult with WEST to escalate recommendations to the HCM WEST working groups and HCM Governance Council.
UW–Madison Tableau
Tableau is the primary tool for reports and visualizations using data from the Student Information System (SIS) and InfoAccess. UW-Madison is able to create its own dashboards in Tableau.
Tableau contains dashboards that include HR data along with data from other campus systems. For example:
- Reports with student data (coming from Student Information System)
Example:Â Â Current Funding for Graduate and Professional Students IDE
Tableau also contains reports in the Employee Data area that provide both overviews and details of a variety of HR metrics. For example:
- Employee Compensation Information
Examples:Â Â Employee Base Compensation Rate Adjustments and Employee Lump Sums
Finding and Accessing Tableau Reports
The Repository for Administrative Data and Reports (RADAR) provides a way of searching available Tableau dashboards.
RADAR also shows the security authorization required for each Tableau dashboard in the Access Restrictions column. If you cannot access a dashboard that has security restrictions, select the “Request Access” link.
Note that UWBI access automatically provides access to Tableau security groups with similar sensitivity. The table below describes the mappings.
