Job Summary:
Manages testing services for an analytical area, performs testing, manages testing services and reports results for chemical constituents in specimens and samples collected from humans, plants, animals, or other environmental matrices. Serves as a subject matter technical expert and scientific leader to internal and external stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:
- Develops, performs, and interprets test results or assays from chemical analysis to ensure quality results to the submitter
- Monitors scientific reporting to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures
- Oversees budget and schedules of operational work plans for a specialized technical laboratory area
- Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- Develops operating policies and laboratory procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives to ensure quality control
- Oversees the inspection, maintenance, and repairs of equipment and instrumentation to ensure optimal and safe operation
- Recruits new employees and conducts employee performance evaluations
- Identifies, develops, and facilitates unit staff training opportunities
- Contributes to the development of the relevant science through professional association conference attendance, presentations, and participation
- Serves as a subject matter technical expert and unit liaison to stakeholders
