  • Job Summary:
    Performs specimen collection, processing, testing, and result interpretation in a medical laboratory to support the treatment and diagnosis of disease. Calibrates and maintains equipment and updates patient medical records to support effective and accurate laboratory operation. Serves as the primary point of contact to internal and external stakeholders, leads established workflows, maintains standard operating procedures, and coordinates the maintenance, quality control, proficiency testing, and documentation of instrumentation.
  • Job Responsibilities:
    • Processes and performs routine to complex and specialized laboratory testing on biological specimens and identifies and resolves complex test problems
    • Analyzes, interprets, verifies, and communicates findings and test results to members of the patient care or research team
    • Operates sophisticated laboratory equipment, automated equipment, and computerized instruments, processing or conducting multiple experiments simultaneously
    • Reviews and troubleshoots laboratory results to ensure quality control and verify that results are within acceptable ranges
    • Operates, calibrates, and maintains clinical laboratory equipment
    • Logs data and findings and enters results into a patient's medical records
    • Coordinates and performs the testing, maintenance, quality control, proficiency testing, and administration of instrumentation devices
    • Develops and updates standard operating procedure(s) (SOPs)
    • Maintains organization of established record keeping system(s), supply orders, instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting logs, quality control, and proficiency testing documentation
    • Serves as the primary point of contact to internal and external stakeholders on specimen processing, testing methodology, quality assessments, and result interpretation, and leads the workflow of unit staff as needed
