  • Job Summary:
    Provides legal representation, advises, and counsels the institutional community on more complex legal matters and projects to prevent or minimize impact of legal risks involving the institution. Provides work guidance to attorneys, manages the office and budget, and supervises staff. Maintains both a legal and administrative role. Serves as the Chief Legal Officer in the absence of the Chief Legal Officer.
  • Job Responsibilities:
    • Completes legal research, fact-gathering and analysis, and provides legal, ethical, and policy advice on one or many complex and novel higher education legal areas. May include an area of specialty
    • Investigates and prepares materials for litigation matters in cooperation with other legal entities
    • Disseminates oral and written legal advice to university administrators, faculty, and staff regarding university business matters
    • Provides legal representation for the university and its employees in various university business matters before federal and state administrative agencies
    • Creates, prepares, and delivers trainings for institutional employees to provide general advice, education, and counseling regarding higher education legal issues
    • Negotiates various university business related agreements
    • Provides work guidance to attorneys and supervises staff
    • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
