Job Summary:
Provides technical and administrative assistance to the forensic toxicology department and represents the laboratory at state, regional, or national meetings and activities. Provides support to staff, law enforcement agencies, district attorneys, coroners/medical examiners, and other professionals who use laboratory services.

Job Responsibilities:
- Reviews analytical work and provides advice on technical difficulties
- Prepares and reviews computer reports of analyses in the alcohol and drug program and assigns forensic scientists for signature on generated reports
- Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- Oversees the inspection, maintenance, and repairs of equipment and instrumentation to ensure optimal and safe operation
- Prepares grant proposals, reports on grant activities, and monitors fiscal status
- Collaborates with management to evaluate new methodology for laboratory use, including selecting a suitable assay method, establishing protocol for evaluation, and devising experimental design
- Extracts information from laboratory database upon request
- Recruits new employees and conducts employee performance evaluations
- Identifies, develops, and facilitates unit staff training opportunities
- Contributes to the development of the relevant science through professional association conference attendance, presentations, and participation
- Provides clear, objective case interpretation for court testimony to appropriate entities to relay scientific findings regarding the analysis and effects of alcohol and drugs on human performance and in medicolegal death investigations
