What's happening to my job?

UW–Madison is updating job titles and descriptions. We have created a new standardized format that is clear, concise, and follows the job framework created in the fall of 2017. The job description format is simpler but your duties will not change.

Why are we updating job descriptions?

The end goal is for all job titles and descriptions to clearly show the work that is done at UW–Madison. Standard job descriptions help to:

  • Accurately reflect job duties and responsibilities.
  • Clarify similarities across jobs.
  • Align jobs at UW–Madison with the job market.
  • Clarify career development opportunities at our university.

When will I see my new job description?

Right now subject matter experts from across the campus are writing and reviewing standard job descriptions. You will be able to see all of UW–Madison’s standard job descriptions after the review is completed.

Staff will participate in training and have conversations about standard job descriptions in 2019.

Your Pay

This is an accordion element with a series of buttons that open and close related content panels.

What's happening to my pay?

Your position will be part of a new, market-informed pay structure. There will not be any pay reductions or job losses because of this project.

Why are we updating our pay structure?

Our current system doesn’t accurately reflect the job market. We are comparing what is being offered currently at UW–Madison to what other employers that have similar workforces are offering. The results will guide us toward making your pay competitive.

Policies

When will I see changes in my pay?

No one will see reductions in their base pay. Once developed, the market based pay ranges will lead to an update of pay programs and policies.

Your Benefits

This is an accordion element with a series of buttons that open and close related content panels.

What's happening to my benefits?

Over a period of time, our benefits strategy will be more competitive. The goal of the project is to update our pay and benefits programs to market competitive offerings, so UW can keep and reward employees like you.

Why are we reviewing current benefits?

An in-depth review of benefits has not been done on a comprehensive basis at the institution for almost 30 years. The goal is for you to have rewarding, enriching job opportunities, with competitive benefit rewards.

When will I see changes in my benefits?

Along with having administered the employee Benefits Preferences Survey, Mercer Consulting is helping us with a market review of benefits. Following this, benefits will be updated.
